Oxford Journals, a division of Oxford University Press (OUP), UK, has announced a new publishing partnership with the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). Under the deal, Oxford Journals will publish the European Journal of Echocardiography, starting 2008. The journal is the fourth ESC title to join Oxford Journals, following European Heart Journal in 2005, Europace in 2006, and Cardiovascular Research, which is also being launched by Oxford Journals for 2008.
The European Journal of Echocardiography is the official journal of the European Association of Echocardiography, a registered branch of the European Society of Cardiology. The journal publishes peer-reviewed articles on the ultrasonic examination of the cardiovascular system, including ischaemic heart disease, valve disease, cardiomyopathy, congenital heart disease, and vascular disease. One immediate benefit for readers of the journal is that they will have access to toll-free reference links to other journals hosted on the HighWire platform, including European Heart Journal, Journal of the American Medical Association, and New England Journal of Medicine.
The European Society of Cardiology represents nearly 53,000 cardiology professionals across Europe and the Mediterranean. To fulfil its mission of 'reducing the burden of cardiovascular disease in Europe', the Society provides an array of scientific and educational activities, such as the production and continuous updating of Clinical Practice Guidelines, the organisation of educational courses and initiatives, pan-European surveys on specific disease areas and the ESC Congress, the largest medical meeting in Europe.
