Oxford University Press and Jisc announce transformative ‘Read and Publish’ agreement -

Academic publisher Oxford University Press (OUP) and education and research not-for-profit, Jisc, have reached a comprehensive ‘Read and Publish’ agreement.

The new agreement will provide UK universities with access to OUP’s journal collection and will allow authors at participating institutions to publish 100% of their original research open access in OUP’s hybrid and fully open access journals.

The agreement runs from 2021 to 2023 and is the most comprehensive deal OUP and Jisc have negotiated to date. It is the product of extensive discussion and collaboration between OUP and Jisc, with both parties sharing the aim of securing a transformative deal which allows UK researchers to access research in OUP’s full journal collection and publish their research outputs open access. The agreement offers UK researchers a robust route to compliance with funder policies.

According to Anna Vernon, Head of Licensing at Jisc, this agreement is yet another step closer to making open access the default for publishing academic research.
