Academic publisher Oxford University Press (OUP) will publish the new journal Synthetic Biology, with content available from summer 2016. Synthetic biology has emerged as a new engineering discipline that has catalysed a change of culture in the life sciences, bringing together engineering and biology in a fast-paced, revolutionary research field.
Synthetic Biology aims to serve the diverse groups working in the area, from researchers, to educators, to those working in industry, by publishing on all aspects of synthetic biology. The journal's diverse editorial board and broad scope reflect its ambition to serve the community with an open and accessible resource.
The aim of the journal is to provide a forum for original research papers, reviews, commentaries, reports on practical projects, and a venue for in-depth discussion on the topics relevant to synthetic biology. Synthetic Biology follows an open-access business model where the content of the journal is freely accessible to all and the publication expenses are covered by Article Processing Charges (APC). All APCs will be waived for articles submitted in 2016.
Prof. Jean Peccoud, the Abell chair in synthetic biology in the Department of Chemical & Biological engineering at Colorado State, serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the journal.
