Padmini Rangamani appointed as new Editor-in-Chief of The Biophysicist -

The Biophysical Society has announced the appointment of Padmini Rangamani as the new Editor-in-Chief of its open access education journal, The Biophysicist. Rangamani is a biophysicist and Associate Professor at the University of California, San Diego. She takes over from the founding Editor-in-Chief, Sam Safran, of the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel.

The Biophysicist is a peer-reviewed journal that was launched in 2018 for biophysics educators and scholars working at all levels of the education system, from K-12 through post-graduate research. It aims to make fundamental concepts and techniques in biophysics and related disciplines, as well as evidence-based pedagogical practice, accessible through academic articles and informal reports that reflect the interdisciplinary nature of biophysics education and the activities of biophysicists in a variety of scientific fields.

In her new role, Rangamani plans to build upon the work of Safran and explore the complementary roles of formal education and educational journals in advancing research. She also plans to highlight research and analysis into best pedagogical practices for graduate programs, develop research projects for high school interns and undergraduates, and create primers on educational and scientific methods. Additionally, she aims to study the diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in the biophysical community and share interviews and invited opinion pieces with the larger scientific community.
