Papers of EPS Conference on Plasma Physics available for free online -

Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, published by IOP publishing, UK, has announced that papers contributed by invited speakers at the 35th European Physical Society Conference on Plasma Physics are now available online. All of these papers will be free to read online in a special issue of the journal until the end of June 2009.

This issue includes the paper 'Alfvén waves: a journey between space and fusion plasmas' by Liu Chen, winner of the EPS Plasma Physics Division 2008 Hannes Alfvén Prize. Also included is 'The Interactions of a flowing plasma with a dipole magnetic field: measurements and modelling of a diamagnetic cavity relevant to spacecraft protection' by R. Bamford et al. This paper shows how knowledge gained from the pursuit of nuclear fusion research may reduce the threat posed by energetic particles to astronauts to tolerable levels, making man's first mission to Mars a much greater possibility.

Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion covers all aspects of the physics of hot, highly ionised plasmas. This includes results of current experimental and theoretical research on all aspects of the physics of high-temperature plasmas and of controlled nuclear fusion, including the basic phenomena in highly-ionised gases in the laboratory, in the ionosphere and in space, in magnetic-confinement and inertial-confinement fusion as well as related diagnostic methods. A list of previous EPS Conference on Plasma Physics issues in Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion and related news can also be found on the journal website.
