Professional Engineering Publishing (PE Publishing), the publishing arm of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), UK, has launched Engineering Conferences Online (ECO), a new online publishing service for conference organisers. ECO seeks to provide conference organisers with a new way of disseminating important engineering research that would normally be very difficult or impossible to locate in traditional book or CD formats.
ECO has been designed specifically to meet the demands of hosting conference proceedings online. Papers in ECO will be available free of charge on an open access basis, and will be fully referenced using DOIs. Conferences will feature further information about each conference including links to the conference website, event location and event date. In addition, a new website architecture has been created to ensure that the service is designed specifically for conferences rather than replicating the structure of an electronic journal.
A wholly-owned subsidiary of IMechE, PE Publishing publishes 18 journals across a variety of subjects of interest to the international engineering community. Sixteen journals are grouped within the Proceedings of the IMechE, each with its own identity and international editorial board.
