Pearson expands Chief Technology Officer Dave Treat’s role to advance AI and digital strategy -

Pearson has announced an expanded leadership role for Chief Technology Officer Dave Treat, who will now oversee the company’s digital and technology operations while continuing his existing responsibilities in architecture and innovation. The transition, effective April 7, follows the departure of Chief Information Officer Marykay Wells on April 4. Treat will continue reporting to CEO Omar Abbosh.

Since joining Pearson nine months ago, Treat has played a key role in advancing the company’s AI initiatives, including the establishment of its AI Center of Enablement. His work has also encompassed research and development, as well as corporate ventures. With nearly 30 years of experience in technology innovation, he has expertise in areas such as generative AI, spatial computing, and quantum computing. Before Pearson, he held senior positions at Deloitte, UBS Investment Bank, and Accenture, and holds over 100 patents in distributed ledger technology, digital identity, and confidential computing.

With this expanded role, Treat will lead efforts to scale Pearson’s AI-driven offerings, strengthen its innovation pipeline, and enhance collaboration across business units. His leadership is expected to build on the company’s existing technology foundations to drive further digital transformation.

Pearson also acknowledged the contributions of outgoing CIO Marykay Wells, who played a key role in the company’s shift from print to digital and the adoption of generative AI across its global technology platforms. Her tenure saw the development of systems designed to improve operational efficiency, simplify processes, and enhance customer experiences.

Beyond his role at Pearson, Treat has contributed to various industry initiatives, serving on the boards of the Linux Hyperledger Foundation, the Linux Open Wallet Foundation, the Digital Dollar Project, and the Global Business Blockchain Council. He holds a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Michigan and a degree in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania. He will continue to be based in Connecticut.
