PeerJ launches open advances in plant science to tackle global challenges and promote open access research -

PeerJ has announced the launch of PeerJ Open Advances in Plant Science, a new open-access journal designed to address the most pressing challenges in plant research. As part of the PeerJ Open Advances series, this journal embraces openness, collaboration, and equity by being free to read and free to publish, eliminating financial barriers to scientific participation.

Led by Editors-in-Chief Professors Ana Ribeiro-Barros and Luis Eguiarte, the journal aims to publish high-quality research and commentary that contribute to solving critical issues in plant science. Each research article will include peer-review reports and Impact Statements that highlight how the work addresses key scientific challenges.

The journal's structure is unique in its focus on Global Challenges, defined and curated by dedicated Associate Editors. Research and commentary will be grouped under these Challenges, fostering a collaborative community of scientists committed to addressing significant questions in plant science. The journal launches with the following five Challenges:

Resilience Strategies: Adaptation of wild and cultivated plants to climate change and human-induced environmental stressors.

Unraveling Evolutionary Dynamics: Exploring plant biodiversity, speciation, and adaptation to environmental change.

Plant-Microbe Interactions: Investigating mechanisms and ecological consequences of plant-microbe relationships.

Climate-Smart Crop Conservation: Innovations for sustainable agricultural production.

Plant Resilience in Extreme Ecosystems: Studying soil-microbial interactions in disturbed and extreme environments.

Two additional Challenges focused on new technologies in plant science and plant evolution will be introduced soon. The journal also welcomes proposals for new Challenges, further enhancing its collaborative approach.

A distinguishing feature of PeerJ Open Advances in Plant Science is its commitment to equity. By eliminating author fees, the journal ensures that researchers from all regions and affiliations can share their findings without financial barriers. This mission aligns with PeerJ’s dedication to transparent publishing and making impactful research accessible to everyone.

The new journal embodies the principles of the PeerJ Open Advances series, championing openness, collaboration, and equity in scientific communication. By providing a platform for innovative and impactful research, PeerJ Open Advances in Plant Science seeks to empower scientists to tackle global challenges and make discoveries that benefit society.
