PeerJ launches Open Advances in Zoology: A new era for zoological research -

PeerJ has announced the launch of PeerJ Open Advances in Zoology, a journal dedicated to addressing the most pressing challenges facing animal life through innovative and high-quality research and commentary. As part of the PeerJ Open Advances series, this new journal emphasizes openness, collaboration, and equity, making scientific communication accessible to all by being free to read and free to publish.

Under the leadership of Editors-in-Chief Professors Lesley Rogers and Michael Wink, PeerJ Open Advances in Zoology aims to publish impactful work that responds to its Global Challenges, which are overseen by dedicated Associate Editors. Articles and contributors will be organized by these Global Challenges, creating a rich repository of research and commentary that contributes to solving key questions and overcoming obstacles in zoological research. The journal is also open to proposals for new Challenges, inviting broader participation from the scientific community.

The journal launches with four initial Challenges:

Advancing Understanding of the Functions and Mechanisms Underlying Animal Behavior and Cognition in Diverse Environments

Invertebrates in the Anthropocene: Critical Knowledge Gathering, Dissemination, and Application to Mitigate Human-Induced Global Impacts

Ontogenetic Plasticity: How the Environment Shapes Bodies and Brains

Key Advances in Descriptive Anatomy and Structural Zoology

In addition to these, three more Challenges focusing on Behavioral Ecology, Biogeography, and Classification will be announced in the coming weeks.

What truly distinguishes PeerJ Open Advances in Zoology is its unwavering commitment to equity. With no author fees, the journal ensures that financial barriers do not obstruct the dissemination of vital research. This approach, combined with a transparent publication process and a scope defined by the zoology community, guarantees that research with the potential to make a significant impact is accessible to all, regardless of geographic location or institutional affiliation.

As part of PeerJ’s Open Advances series, the journal champions openness, collaboration, and equity in scientific communication. The mission is clear: to empower researchers to contribute to solving the world's most pressing problems by providing a platform for high-quality research that is freely available to everyone.
