Penn State Libraries launches open-access journal 'Geomorphica' -

Penn State University Libraries Open Publishing has proudly launched a new Diamond Open Access journal, Geomorphica, dedicated to advancing research and discussion in the field of geomorphology—the study of landforms and the processes shaping them. Notably, Geomorphica stands out as the only journal in its field that is completely free for both readers and authors, eliminating the traditional fees associated with academic publishing.

Geomorphica covers a broad range of topics within geomorphology, including landscapes, landforms, earth and planetary surface processes, and the mechanisms, dynamics, and timescales of these processes. The inaugural issue of the journal was published in May 2024, marking the beginning of what promises to be a significant platform for researchers in the field.

The journal is overseen by a steering committee featuring distinguished experts, including Dr. Michel Lefebvre, alongside Roberto Fernández, assistant professor in Penn State’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The committee also includes global contributors such as Matthieu Giaime from Université Paul-Valéry Montpellier III, Melanie Stammler from Universität Bonn, and Larry Syu-Heng Lai from the University of Washington. With a dedicated team of editors, contributors, and volunteers, Geomorphica is committed to fostering high-quality research and is currently seeking additional volunteer support.

Starting in 2025, Geomorphica will transition to a biannual publication schedule, with submissions accepted on a rolling basis.
