Penn State Libraries to host ‘We Are Enough: Practical Open Access for Everyone’ panel for Open Access Week 2025 -

Penn State University Libraries will mark International Open Access Week 2025 with a high-profile virtual panel on October 23, 2025 bringing together three prominent global open access movement advocates. Titled 'We Are Enough: Practical Open Access for Everyone,' the event is part of the institution’s continued commitment to scholarly openness and will feature Samuel Moore, Sarah Lamdan, and Peter Suber.

Moore, a scholarly communication specialist at Cambridge University Library, is a founder of the Radical Open Access Collective and author of an upcoming University of Michigan Press book 'Publishing Beyond the Market: Open Access, Care and the Commons'. Lamdan, deputy director of the American Library Association's Office for Intellectual Freedom, wrote the acclaimed book 'Data Cartels'. Suber, a leading theorist of the open access movement, authored the seminal monograph 'Open Access'.

The event’s theme was selected to resonate with a diverse academic and professional audience, including faculty, researchers, students, librarians, independent scholars, and publishing professionals. It aligns with the broader Open Access Week 2025 theme, 'Who Owns Our Knowledge?', which explores critical questions of access and ownership in scholarly communications.

Penn State has been actively promoting open access since 2015, bolstered by University Faculty Senate support in 2019 and formalized with policy AC02 in 2020, mandating institutional support for open access to scholarly articles. This decade-long effort has positioned the university as a leader in advancing barrier-free access to academic knowledge.

The panel will take place online from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. ET and is open to the public with prior registration. Additional resources about open access at Penn State are available at openaccess.psu.edu.
