Penton’s Urgent Communications to focus solely on digital content -

Penton, a privately held business information company, has announced that Urgent Communications (UC), a media outlet that covers communications technology for the government, public safety, utility, transportation and enterprise sectors, will focus solely on digital content, effective immediately. The August 2013 issue is the last print magazine that will be produced, however, new UC content will be available via its website at www.urgentcomm.com and its twice-weekly UC Today electronic newsletter.

Simultaneously, UC will be re-branded as IWCE's Urgent Communications to more closely align with Penton's International Wireless Communications Expo (IWCE), the industry's leading trade show and educational conference.

According to Stephanie McCall, IWCE/UC brand director, the focus on digital content also reflects new directions in how advertisers want to spend their marketing dollars. Digital advertising is actionable and measureable, something print advertising is not.

IWCE Content Director Stacey Orlick has worked closely with Glenn Bischoff and Donny Jackson—UC's editor-in-chief and editor, respectively, to develop IWCE's extensive and well-regarded educational program. The closer alignment between IWCE and UC will strengthen that collaboration, with the eventual result being new training and certification programs.
