The journal Pharmacogenomics, published by Future Medicine, part of UK-based Future Science Group, has announced that it is celebrating its 10th anniversary with two special issues scheduled for April and May 2010. The peer-reviewed journal seeks to provide a forum for multidisciplinary scientists to keep abreast of the latest developments in pharmacogenomics, and to provide commentary and analysis to place these advances in context.
The research field of pharmacogenomics explores the influence of genetic variation on drug response. It is seen to have major implications for the potential to personalise therapies - an approach that already has clinical application, but is still in its infancy in the overall healthcare arena. A monthly journal, Pharmacogenomics is edited by Senior Editors Dr. Howard McLeod (University of North Carolina, US), Prof. Munir Pirmohamed (University of Liverpool, UK) and Dr. David Gurwitz (Tel Aviv University, Israel). They are supported by a team of associate editors, together with an advisory panel of more than 50 international experts.
In a foreword to the two celebratory issues, the editors highlight how pharmacogenomics testing will become part of routine medical practice in an increasing number of medical disciplines. This would be due to an expansion in the knowledge on genotypes and epigenetic markers with drug response phenotype.
