Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) provider Pharmacy OneSource, a part of Wolters Kluwer Health, US, has announced plans to host a complimentary webinar with Dr. Carla Alvarado on “Infection Prevention with Human Factors and Systems Engineering.” The webinar will be broadcasting on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 from 2:00 P.M – 3.00 P.M ET.
Errors in complex systems invariably have multiple embedded causes at a variety of levels. Understanding error causality is seen as essential for design improvement. Although human factors experts can produce diagnoses of error causality, there is little guidance for healthcare professionals on how to diagnosis errors and understand failures in safety-critical systems.
Dr. Alvarado will seek to provide an understanding of human factors and systems engineering and how this approach to infection prevention and patient safety can improve performance, prevent harm when error occurs, and help systems recover from error, mitigating further harm.
Dr. Alvarado, a research scientist emerita at the Center for Quality and Productivity Improvement of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is a member of the editorial board of the American Journal of Infection Control and a reviewer for various health-related and human factors engineering journals.
