PLOS Complex Systems and PLOS Mental Health are now open to receive submissions -

Open access journals, PLOS Complex Systems and PLOS Mental Health, have officially begun accepting submissions following extensive groundwork and assembling diverse editorial teams for each journal. The primary objective is to engage researchers from a wide spectrum of backgrounds and bring their expertise to a broader audience.

Authors keen on submitting their work to PLOS Complex Systems or PLOS Mental Health can access comprehensive information about the journals, including research sections, publication criteria, submission guidelines, and the inaugural Editorial Board members via the respective journal websites: Explore PLOS Complex Systems, Explore PLOS Mental Health.

PLOS Mental Health, spearheaded by Editors-in-Chief Charlene Sunkel and Rochelle Burgess, accompanied by Executive Editor Karli Montague-Cardoso, aims to spotlight research addressing the challenges and gaps within mental health. The journal emphasizes prioritizing the experiences of individuals and communities in shaping research, treatment, and care methodologies.

PLOS Complex Systems, under the leadership of Editor-in-Chief Hocine Cherifi, collaborates with an Editorial Board comprising active researchers in the field. It focuses on consolidating significant research across diverse disciplines, enabling a comprehensive understanding of complex systems.

Both journals are designed to merge various research disciplines and expert perspectives, fostering extensive scopes that encourage information exchange and discussions among stakeholders. Aligned with PLOS’ Open Science principles, the journals are committed to working with research communities to establish practices enhancing research integrity, transparency, equity, and visibility in the field.

PLOS Mental Health will be supported by the Global Equity model, ensuring regionally equitable opportunities for institutions to cover the cost of Open Access publication on behalf of their authors. Meanwhile, PLOS Complex Systems will operate under the Flat Fee model, simplifying the process for institutions to reduce or eliminate author fees.

Authors can verify if their publication fees are covered through their institutions by visiting PLOS’ Institutional Partners page, which will be updated with details about the new journals. Additionally, authors hailing from Research4Life countries will automatically be eligible for similar publishing benefits, with specific eligibility criteria and supplementary publication fee support options detailed on the fees page.

This launch marks a significant step in embracing diverse perspectives, promoting inclusivity, and advancing open access in the realms of mental health research and understanding complex systems across various disciplines.
