PLOS expands portfolio with two new journals - PLOS Mental Health and PLOS Complex Systems -

Open-access publisher PLOS has announced the upcoming launch of two new journals: PLOS Mental Health and PLOS Complex Systems. This development expands PLOS's portfolio and creates dedicated spaces for researchers to share their work and collaborate in these critical fields.

PLOS Mental Health aims to establish a dedicated platform for mental health research, bringing together experts from diverse disciplines to address challenges and gaps in the field. The journal prioritizes the lived experience of individuals, ensuring that ethical and rigorous research is openly shared to drive significant progress in global mental health and well-being.

Charlene Sunkel and Rochelle Burgess have been appointed as the Editors-in-Chief of PLOS Mental Health. Sunkel expressed enthusiasm for partnering with PLOS, highlighting the value of involving individuals with lived experience in mental health research. The journal intends to disseminate research not only within the scientific community but also to a broader stakeholder community, facilitating evidence-based efforts to promote and protect mental health for all.

PLOS Complex Systems will serve as a transdisciplinary journal that brings together impactful research exploring complex systems at the core of our world. The journal welcomes contributions from any field that examines phenomena through the lens of complex relationships and models, providing a platform for tracking, measuring, and predicting outcomes. By fostering collaboration and shaping Open Science practices, PLOS Complex Systems aims to inspire innovative ideas and accelerate progress in addressing society's most pressing challenges.

Hocine Cherifi has been appointed as the first Editor-in-Chief of PLOS Complex Systems. Cherifi expressed excitement at being part of a journal that breaks down disciplinary boundaries and encourages holistic problem-solving approaches. The launch of PLOS Complex Systems presents an opportunity to uncover profound insights and drive innovation across multiple fields, ultimately shaping the future of complex systems research.

PLOS emphasizes its commitment to inclusivity, equity, and the representation of diverse voices within these journals. By engaging local experts worldwide and embracing perspectives from various disciplines, PLOS Mental Health and PLOS Complex Systems seek to foster a robust foundation for Open Science.

To ensure equitable participation, PLOS is exploring alternative models to Article Processing Charges (APCs) that provide mechanisms for institutional support. This approach aims to enable authors to publish open access, regardless of personal funding resources.

As the development of these journals progresses, PLOS will actively seek input from the research communities and stakeholders involved. The organization aims to collaborate closely with researchers, encouraging their active participation in shaping responsible and inclusive approaches that meet the evolving needs of the community.

Researchers interested in learning more about PLOS Mental Health and PLOS Complex Systems, joining the Editorial Board, or receiving news and updates are encouraged to visit the respective websites of the journals. PLOS looks forward to engaging with the research community, fostering valuable discussions, and advancing Open Science practices through these exciting new additions to its portfolio.
