PNAS and Jisc announce new two-year open access publishing agreement -

The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) has announced a new two-year Publish-and-Read agreement with Jisc that expands open access publishing opportunities for researchers across the United Kingdom. The agreement allows corresponding authors at participating UK higher-education institutions and research organizations to publish open access in PNAS without paying article processing charges (APCs).

In addition to open access publishing, researchers at participating institutions will receive full reading access to the PNAS archive, including all content published since the journal’s founding in 1915. The agreement is intended to support broader dissemination of scientific research while maintaining sustainable publishing models.

This marks the second Publish-and-Read agreement between PNAS and Jisc, the UK’s higher education digital, data, and technology organization. The agreement will run from January 2026 through December 2027. Under the model, participating institutions pay a flat annual fee, with the shared objective of covering all UK-authored research output published in PNAS during the agreement period.

The partnership reflects a continued commitment by both organizations to expand open access options while ensuring long-term access to high-quality scholarly publications. The model is designed to balance affordability for institutions with financial sustainability for a mission-driven, nonprofit journal.
