Preprints.org, a multidisciplinary preprint platform operated by open-access publisher MDPI, has launched a new Reading List feature to coincide with World Book Day 2025. The new feature enables researchers, authors, and readers to curate and share collections of preprint articles—versions of scientific papers that precede formal peer review and publication. Alongside this launch, Preprints.org introduced two new community initiatives: the Preprint Reading Marathon and Reader’s Choice programs, offering certificates, discount vouchers for MDPI Author Services, and opportunities for global engagement.
Organized annually by UNESCO, World Book Day celebrates the role of books in fostering cultural exchange, education, and innovation across generations and communities.
The new Reading List feature allows users to create public or private lists of preprints via the Preprints.org World Book Day page. Public lists will be highlighted on the platform, where they can be shared, favorited, and discussed among the research community. The initiative aims to facilitate the organization of research materials, promote scholarly dialogue, and enhance the visibility of early research outputs.
In parallel, Preprints.org has invited participation in two community programs. The Preprint Reading Marathon encourages users to curate and read a selection of preprints to qualify for a Reading Marathon Award. The Reader’s Choice program invites participants to publicly share curated lists and receive endorsements in the form of "favorites" to earn a Reader’s Choice Award. Participants in either program will receive certificates and discounts on MDPI Author Services.
The introduction of these features reflects Preprints.org’s efforts to enhance community engagement and support early research dissemination. The initiative is designed to assist academics in organizing their research and fostering global scholarly discussions, offering additional incentives to encourage broader participation in open science practices.
