Prof. Dirk Van Raemdonck appointed as inaugural Editor-in-Chief for JHLT Open, the new journal by ISHLT -

The International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT) has announced the appointment of Prof. Dirk Van Raemdonck, as the inaugural Editor-in-Chief of JHLT Open, the society's forthcoming open access journal. The selection of Prof. Van Raemdonck follows a rigorous process led by ISHLT's Publications Oversight Committee, and his expertise in the field of heart and lung transplantation positions him well to lead this important venture.

JHLT Open will serve as a companion journal to the esteemed Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation (JHLT), which holds the distinction of being the top-ranked journal in transplantation by impact factor. JHLT Open aims to provide a modern platform for the timely dissemination of high-quality information in areas such as heart and lung transplantation, advanced lung disease, mechanical and biological support for failing hearts, and cell replacement therapy. Additionally, the journal will showcase pre-clinical sciences in these rapidly evolving domains.

Prof. Van Raemdonck, a distinguished member of the Department of Thoracic Surgery at the University Hospitals Leuven in Belgium, serves as the surgical director of the Leuven Lung Transplant Group. He has made significant contributions to the field of lung transplantation, with his research focusing on critical aspects such as primary graft dysfunction, donation after circulatory death, and ex-vivo lung perfusion.

As a GOLD Open Access publication, JHLT Open embodies ISHLT's commitment to inclusivity and global knowledge sharing. By adopting this open access model, the journal ensures that the latest research and knowledge in the field of cardiopulmonary transplantation are freely accessible to researchers, healthcare professionals, and the public worldwide.

While JHLT Open will cover a broad range of content, it will also provide opportunities for special virtual issues and programs that highlight specific areas of interest.

JHLT Open is scheduled to start accepting submissions in July 2023. Authors can access the guide for authors, including a checklist and information about the submission process, which is available now, ensuring a seamless and efficient submission experience for researchers eager to contribute to this exciting new journal.
