Prof. Gert-Martin Greuel named new editor-in-chief of mathematics publication database - Zentralblatt für Mathematik -

Prof. Gert-Martin Greuel has been appointed the new editor-in-chief of the mathematics publication database ‘Zentralblatt für Mathematik’ (ZBMATH). Prof. Greuel was appointed in a joint decision by the publishers of ZBMATH - FIZ Karlsruhe — Leibniz Institute for Information Infrastructure, the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, the European Mathematical Society, and the publishing house Springer Science+Business Media.

He will succeed Prof. Bernd Wegner, who successfully directed the renowned publication database for 37 years. Wegner, who was instrumental in both the digitisation of the database and its development as an online service, will step down as editor-in-chief of ZBMATH at the end of 2011.

First founded in 1931 as an abstracting and reviewing service in pure and applied mathematics, ZBMATH grew under the direction of Prof. Wegner and his editorial staff to become a key academic resource for mathematicians in Europe, and has played an important role in numerous digitisation projects. Prof. Greuel intends to further enhance the ZBMATH online service in order to better serve its users.
