AIP Publishing is pleased to announce the appointment of internationally renowned computational chemist, Prof. Xiaosong Li, as the first Editor-in-Chief of its newest open access journal, APL Computational Physics. The journal, which is set to publish its inaugural issue in the second half of 2025, aims to become a leading platform for interdisciplinary advancements in computational physics, aligning with the growing intersection of physics, chemistry, materials science, mathematics, and computer science.
Prof. Li, currently the Larry R. Dalton Endowed Chair in Chemistry and Associate Dean for Research in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Washington, brings a wealth of experience to this new role. Having joined the University of Washington in 2005 after earning his PhD in Chemistry from Wayne State University in 2003 and completing postdoctoral research at Yale University, Prof. Li has become a distinguished figure in the field. He is also a fellow at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, further reinforcing his prominence in computational chemistry and physics.
Renowned for his pioneering work in time-dependent quantum theory and relativistic electronic structure methods, Prof. Li’s expertise lies at the cutting edge of computational research. His interdisciplinary approach reflects the journal’s mission to foster collaboration across diverse scientific domains and drive innovation in computational physics.
Throughout his career, Prof. Li has received numerous prestigious awards, including the National Science Foundation CAREER Award and the American Chemical Society Jack Simons Award in Theoretical Physical Chemistry. He is also a Fellow of both the American Physical Society and the Royal Society of Chemistry. In addition to his accolades, Prof. Li has authored hundreds of peer-reviewed articles and developed several widely used computational software packages.
As the inaugural Editor-in-Chief of APL Computational Physics, Prof. Li will oversee the journal's editorial direction, ensuring it upholds the highest standards of scientific rigor and innovation. The journal is expected to play a key role in advancing the field by publishing cutting-edge research and promoting the exchange of ideas across various scientific disciplines.
