IOP Publishing (IOP), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Institute of Physics, and SISSA have announced the appointment of Professor Marzio Nessi as the new Scientific Director for the Journal of Instrumentation, effective April 1, 2014. He succeeds the founding Scientific Director Professor Amos Breskin, who has led the journal since its launch in 2006.
In this role Professor Nessi will provide scientific and editorial leadership for the journal and help shape its future direction. He will be supported by an international Advisory Board and an extensive Editorial Board chosen from amongst the leading research scientists in the field of radiation instrumentation.
Professor Nessi is presently project leader of CERN's new neutrino facility (CENF) although he has worked in a variety of roles at CERN since 1989, including work on the UA2 experiment, spokesperson for the RD34 project, Project Leader of the ATLAS Hadron Tile Calorimeter and ATLAS Technical Coordinator. In the latter role, he was overall project manager for ATLAS, with the mandate to lead the construction and to bring into operation the gigantic detector used for the discovery of the Higgs Boson at the Large Hadron Collider.
He is also a member of the University of Geneva, as Titular Professor in the Physics Department.
The Journal of Instrumentation is jointly owned and published by SISSA Medialab and IOP Publishing. The journal covers concepts and instrumentation in radiation detector physics, accelerator science and associated experimental methods and techniques, theory, modelling and simulations.
