ProQuest launches Ebook Central Reader App to enhance secure, accessible offline ebook use across platforms -

ProQuest, part of Clarivate, has launched a new Ebook Central Reader App, aimed at improving offline access to digital academic content through a secure and accessible interface across mobile and desktop operating systems. Developed in collaboration with library development partners, the app is designed to meet the evolving needs of students, researchers, and libraries seeking flexible and future-ready reading tools.

The app supports iOS, Android, Windows, and macOS platforms and aligns with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 and the latest EPUB standards. It offers streamlined device management, a user-friendly interface, and robust offline access capabilities, enabling students to download and read academic materials without needing an active internet connection.

Functioning under existing Ebook Central licenses, the app ensures continued privacy protections and intellectual property safeguards through built-in digital rights management. It eliminates the reliance on third-party tools such as Adobe Digital Editions, giving institutions greater control over ebook usage and access.

The new platform builds upon earlier Ebook Central enhancements, including the EPUB Preferred format and the AI-powered Research Assistant, and supports ongoing accessibility efforts through partnerships with the DAISY Consortium, Inclusive Publishing, and the Publishing Accessibility Action Group.

Libraries can implement the app according to their own internal timelines. Once activated, all subsequent ebook downloads will open in the new app environment. The Ebook Central Reader App is now available at no additional cost from all major app stores.
