Publishers Association launches UK Publishing Inclusion Pledge to drive diversity and equity -

The Publishers Association has launched a new Publishing Inclusion Pledge aimed at strengthening equity, inclusion, and belonging across the UK publishing sector. The initiative recognizes that diverse perspectives enhance publishing outcomes and is designed to support publishers of all sizes, sectors, and specialties in taking practical action to advance inclusion.

Developed in collaboration with Publishers Association members, staff groups, and sector organizations, the Pledge positions equity, inclusion, and belonging as essential principles guiding the UK publishing industry. Organizations that sign up commit to promoting fair opportunities and fostering environments in which individuals are respected, heard, and supported.

More than 40 publishers had signed the Pledge ahead of its launch, representing regional and London-based organizations across trade, academic, and educational publishing, as well as both large and small publishers. The initiative has also received endorsement from key industry bodies, including the Independent Publishers Guild, Publishing Scotland, The Booksellers Association, the Society of Authors, and The Association of Illustrators.

The Publishing Inclusion Pledge updates the Inclusivity Action Plans produced by the Publishers Association since 2017. This revised approach aims to provide clearer leadership and accelerate progress toward a publishing workforce that better reflects UK society and the audiences it serves.
