Publishing House of the Geological Society of London releases new content within Lyell Collection -

The Publishing House of the Geological Society of London has announced the release of new content within its Lyell Collection. The Lyell Collection, created to mark the Geological Society of London's 200th anniversary in 2007, represents the combined archive content of the Society's own journals, special publications and key book series.

The new content spans the centuries, encompassing the historic Transactions of the Geological Society of London, the first journal to be founded by the Society, and the journal Geochemistry: Exploration, Environment, Analysis. While the Transactions of the Geological Society of London will be added to the Lyell Collection in November, Geochemistry: Exploration, Environment, Analysis, launched in 2001, was added to the Lyell Collection in September.

Transactions of the Geological Society of London was published from 1811 to 1856. Contributing authors include some of the greatest geologists of their time, whose work even today continues to have relevance and impact. The quality and scarcity of the 350 papers published during the journal's 45 year existence have made them highly collectable and therefore expensive. In line with the journal's motto, the digitisation and publication of these papers within the Lyell Collection will make this historically valuable content open for all.

Geochemistry: Exploration, Environment, Analysis covers the exploration for, and study of, mineral deposits and related fields, including the geochemistry of the environment. Much of the content focusses on the study of surficial materials whose geochemistry can be interpreted for both mineral exploration and environmental purposes.

The Lyell Collection collates, in a single electronic platform, the digitised content of the Society's extensive range of publications, covering journal and book articles dating back over nearly 300 years - in all, over 15,000 peer-reviewed articles, many of which report discoveries that remain relevant to research and industry even today. Institutional access to the Lyell Collection is by annual subscription.
