Publishing giant Reed Elsevier, Netherlands, is reportedly putting its business-to-business division, Reed Business Information (RBI), on sale. The sale will include scientific current affairs magazine, New Scientist. According to analysts' estimates, the sale could generate more than $2.5 billion of revenue.
The announcement to sell RBI came on February 21 among a broader cost-saving plan and news that Reed Elsevier has purchased ChoicePoint Inc., a provider of information to the insurance industry, for about $4.1 billion.
Reed Elsevier also owns Cell and The Lancet, among other journals and science and medical textbooks. The sale will not include these titles.
