Registration opens for SSP’s 48th Annual Meeting in California -

Registration has opened for the Society for Scholarly Publishing’s (SSP) 48th Annual Meeting, scheduled to take place May 27–29, 2026, at the Gaylord Pacific Resort & Convention Center in Chula Vista, California.

This year’s program is framed around a central tension in scholarly communication: how to adapt and innovate amid disruption while remaining grounded in core values. The meeting will address funding pressures, declining trust in institutions, constrained library budgets, continued strain on peer review, and the accelerating impact of artificial intelligence. Sessions will examine implications for workflows, business models, research assessment, open access, AI governance, and relationships across the scholarly publishing ecosystem.

The keynote address on May 27 will be delivered by Dr. Chinasa T. Okolo, founder of Technecultura and policy specialist at the United Nations Office for Digital and Emerging Technologies. Recognized by TIME as one of the world’s most influential people in AI and named to Forbes’ inaugural 30 Under 30 AI list, Okolo is expected to address AI’s role in scholarly communications.

A plenary session on May 28 will bring together senior leaders to examine research assessment, mentorship, trust in research, open access, and the impact of AI on scholarly communications. The May 29 Previews Session will feature rapid presentations focused on practical solutions designed to enhance efficiency, protect integrity, and strengthen partnerships across the ecosystem.

The meeting will feature 23 educational sessions over two days, complementing three plenary sessions. Additional components include industry breakout sessions with case studies and market insights, an Exhibitors Marketplace showcasing innovations from service providers, poster presentations with dedicated discussion time, and networking events such as receptions, interactive lunches, and informal meetups. The 2026 Epic Awards Celebration, recognizing achievements in scholarly publishing, will require separate registration.
