Registration opens for the 13th GW Ethics in Publishing Conference 2023 -

The GW Ethics in Publishing Conference is back for its 13th edition, and registration is now officially open! Hosted by the George Washington University Master of Professional Studies in Publishing program, the conference is a highly anticipated event in the publishing, library, and scholarly communication community. This year's conference will take place on October 12, 2023, from 9 am to 4:30 pm EDT.

In response to the evolving global landscape, the 13th GW Ethics in Publishing Conference will be held as a hybrid event, offering both in-person participation at the George Washington University's Arlington Education Center in Arlington, VA, and virtual attendance via Zoom.

The conference organizers have received a record number of presentation proposals. With such an extensive pool of expertise to draw from, attendees can expect a robust and diverse program that covers a wide range of critical topics in the publishing industry.

The esteemed sponsors for this year's event include familiar names such as the Association of University Presses (AUPresses), the Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP), and the Association of American Publishers (AAP). Joining them are two new sponsors, the Council of Science Editors (CSE) and the International Society of Managing and Technical Editors (ISMTE), adding further depth to the conference's breadth of insights.

Registration for the conference is free of charge, extending an open invitation to all professionals and enthusiasts in the publishing, library, and scholarly communication fields. For those attending in-person, a complimentary lunch will be provided, allowing participants to network and engage in meaningful discussions during the event. Following the conference, a social hour will create additional opportunities for knowledge exchange and relationship-building.

The conference program promises a rich array of presentations from industry experts, touching upon a variety of critical subjects. Topics to be explored include the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) in publishing, the significance of language and multilingualism, fostering workplace equity, the evolution of open access, advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion, enhancing accessibility in publishing, navigating the complexities of peer review, strategic publishing approaches, and much more.

Participants have two registration options to tailor their conference experience. "In-Person Attendee" allows participants to attend the conference at the GW Arlington Learning Center in person (note: in-person attendees will also receive links to live streams and recordings). For those preferring virtual attendance, the conference will be live-streamed, and sessions will be available as recordings, providing flexibility and convenience.

The GW Ethics in Publishing Conference represents an extraordinary opportunity for professionals to engage with the most pertinent ethical considerations facing the publishing industry today. This collaborative event, organized in association with the GW Journal of Ethics in Publishing, strives to uphold the highest standards of integrity and ethics while fostering a community committed to advancing knowledge and responsible publishing practices.

Registration is now open, and spaces are limited for in-person attendees. Interested participants are encouraged to secure their spots promptly and be part of this enlightening and transformative event that promises to shape the future of publishing ethics.
