Research Solutions launches Scite MCP to connect AI tools with scientific literature -

Research Solutions has launched Scite MCP, a new capability designed to connect AI tools directly with scientific literature and research evaluation tools.

The Scite MCP enables researchers and developers to search scientific literature and assess the reliability of research findings within the AI tools already used for writing, coding, analysis, and literature review. The integration connects with platforms including ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, and other applications that support the Model Context Protocol (MCP) standard.

The initiative addresses limitations associated with large language models, which often generate fluent text but may lack comprehensive access to scholarly material and may struggle to distinguish well-supported research findings from disputed results. Such limitations can reduce reliability in research environments where evidence-based analysis is essential.

The Scite MCP integration provides AI tools with direct access to more than 250 million indexed scientific articles, book chapters, preprints, and datasets. The system incorporates Scite's Smart Citations, a technology that categorizes citations as supporting, mentioning, or contrasting the findings referenced in a research publication.

By combining large-scale literature indexing with citation classification, the platform allows AI tools to generate responses supported by verifiable scientific evidence. Researchers and AI agents can review citation context to determine whether subsequent studies support or challenge earlier findings.

The integration provides several capabilities, including evidence-backed responses grounded in identifiable research papers, contextual analysis of citations across the scholarly literature, and broad coverage of scientific publications. The platform is designed to work across multiple AI tools and development environments that support MCP-based integration.

Scite MCP is currently available to paid Scite subscribers and provides access to open access articles. Research Solutions is also working with publishers to expand the integration to include paywalled content.

Through collaboration with publishers, the company aims to enable controlled AI access to scholarly content using Scite as a gateway that manages access while maintaining publisher oversight.
