Richard Debski, professor of bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering, has been appointed Co-Editor-in-Chief of the ASME Journal of Biomechanical Engineering.
Debski has authored more than 170 peer-reviewed research papers as well as 30 book chapters and review articles. A fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers since 2012, Debski has been involved with the organization since undergraduate studies at the University of Pittsburgh.
The Journal of Biomechanical Engineering publishes research focused on the application of mechanical engineering principles to improving human health. The publication covers a broad range of biomechanics topics including cellular and tissue mechanics, human movement, fluid dynamics, and medical device design.
Debski will share editorial leadership of the journal with Thao Nguyen, professor of Mechanical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. The editors will oversee the peer-review and publication process for research spanning multiple areas of biomechanics and biomedical engineering.
Debski previously served as an associate editor of the journal from 2007 to 2013 and has maintained active involvement in the biomechanics research community through professional societies and editorial activities.
In addition to participation in ASME, Debski holds fellow status in the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering and the Orthopaedic Research Society.
The five-year term as Co-Editor-in-Chief will begin on March 10, 2026, and will continue through December 31, 2031.
