Road to Open: Radioprotection successfully moves to open access in 2024 through S2O -

EDP Sciences and the Société Française de Radioprotection (SFRP) have announced that the journal Radioprotection will transition to Open Access (OA) under the Subscribe to Open (S2O) model in 2024. This move is made possible through subscriber backing and additional financial support from SFRP. An editorial has been published in Radioprotection, offering further insights into the background and implications of this significant transition to Open Access.

In 2023, efforts to move Radioprotection to OA under the S2O model did not meet the necessary subscription and financial thresholds. However, financial support from SFRP coupled with renewed subscriptions from the journal's loyal subscriber base have enabled EDP Sciences and SFRP to reach this critical milestone. Effective immediately, all articles published in Radioprotection starting from 2024 will be freely accessible worldwide, with the potential to significantly enhance the dissemination of crucial research and contribute to the continued advancement of radiation protection.

Key Features of the Radioprotection S2O Model:

No Article Processing Charges (APCs) - Authors can publish their work without the financial burden of APCs, a significant step toward equitable scientific communication. Additionally, authors retain copyright ownership, ensuring compliance with open access mandates from institutions and funders.

Enhanced Accessibility and Visibility - Open access increases the visibility of research, leading to a potential increase in citations and impact. This enhances the reach and utility of work published in Radioprotection.

Continuous Access to Archives - Subscribers will benefit from uninterrupted access to the Archive which spans back to 1966, as well as all content in 2024, ensuring that institutions have comprehensive coverage of advancements in radiation protection.

Early access to forthcoming articles – Subscribers will have exclusive early access to articles upon acceptance.

The long-term sustainability of the S2O model relies on the continued support of libraries and academic institutions through ongoing subscriptions. EDP Sciences and SFRP strongly encourage libraries to subscribe to Radioprotection, thereby guaranteeing the enduring success of open access for this vital journal.
