The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) has published its latest diversity data report, in line with its inclusion and diversity strategy through 2025. The report aims to shed light on the composition of the chemical sciences community and track progress based on quantitative and qualitative data and evidence.
Professor Marina Resmini, Chair of the RSC Inclusion and Diversity Committee, emphasized the importance of transparency in data collection and reporting. She highlighted the urgent need for change in addressing challenges related to gender, race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic inclusion. The report plays a crucial role in informing these efforts and driving positive transformation within the chemical sciences community.
However, it is important to note that the current report does not include a direct comparison of data between 2020 and 2022 due to updated survey questions. Nevertheless, the broader scope of the 2022 report provides a comprehensive dataset for analysis and action.
Using the data collected, the RSC will collaborate with individual teams and departments to facilitate a deeper understanding of the findings. This will enable targeted changes to projects and initiatives, ensuring inclusivity across the organization.
The RSC encourages the community to engage with the report and participate in data collection initiatives. By working together, chemistry can become a field that embraces diversity and welcomes individuals from all backgrounds.
The publication of the diversity data report reflects the RSC's ongoing commitment to creating an inclusive environment within the chemical sciences and promoting diversity at every level. By leveraging data and evidence, the RSC aims to achieve meaningful progress and drive positive change in the scientific community.
