Royal Society Publishing and CAPES sign five-year Read & Publish agreement for Brazilian researchers -

Royal Society Publishing has entered into a five-year Read & Publish agreement with Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES), a development marking a significant step toward advancing open access publishing for researchers in Brazil.

Under the agreement, authors affiliated with CAPES-supported institutions will be able to publish in Royal Society journals without paying Article Processing Charges (APCs). The centrally funded arrangement enables Brazilian researchers to disseminate their work without financial barriers, aligning with broader efforts to support equitable access to scientific communication.

The agreement reflects a broader recognition of the increasing contribution of Brazilian scholarship to international research. Over its five-year term, the arrangement will eliminate publication costs for eligible authors, with APCs covered in full by CAPES.

This initiative also represents the first Read & Publish agreement signed by Royal Society Publishing with a consortium in Latin America, and one of the initial such agreements entered into by CAPES. The collaboration was facilitated by KGL Accucoms, a global provider of sales and marketing services to academic and professional publishers.

Stakeholders in the agreement indicated that the initiative supports CAPES’ evolving open access policy, while also enabling broader international visibility for Brazilian research. The arrangement is expected to benefit a wide range of researchers by providing a cost-free pathway to open access publication in Royal Society journals.

The agreement underscores the mutual commitment of the involved organizations to foster global collaboration in research dissemination and enhance accessibility through open access models.
