RSC Prospect offers structure searching within articles, links to patent data -

Non-profit publisher RSC Publishing has announced that structure searching within journal articles and links to patent information are two of the new features now available with RSC Prospect enhanced HTML journal articles. Linking together related articles by subject ontologies and identified compounds, RSC Prospect enhanced HTML articles provide users with definitions, synonyms, structures and RSS feeds. RSC Project Prospect aims to make the science within journal articles machine-readable through semantic enrichment - the integration of metadata into text.

Now there are wider compound identifiers, to include groups and relationships via the ChEBI (Chemical Entities of Biological Interest) ontology, plus links to patent information and compounds in PubChem. However, it is the structure and sub-structure search facility that is anticipated to be the most welcome addition to the features - its introduction was prompted by feedback from users.

Winner of the 2007 ALPSP/Charlesworth Award for Publishing Innovation, RSC Prospect was first released in February 2007. There are now more than 1,600 articles that have been enhanced with these features.
