Safari Books Online, a US-based e-reference joint venture between publishers O'Reilly Media, Inc. and Pearson Technology Group, has announced that the company was named a 2008 Jolt Product Excellence Awards finalist and Productivity Winner in the Websites/Developer Networks category. The Jolt Awards recognise innovative, trend-making and ahead-of-the-curve products that are universally useful and simple yet rich in functionality or solve a nagging problem in their product space.
Safari Books Online was selected as a finalist from hundreds of nominees submitted in 16 different categories. Furthermore, the Jolt Award Winner and every finalist in the Technical Books category is accessible on Safari Books Online. Safari makes the full-text of these books and thousands of others available within its digital libraries, and also provides subscribers with access to pre-published book manuscripts on emerging technology topics, short-form documents, and instructional videos.
For the past 17 years, the Dr. Dobb's Jolt Product Excellence Awards have been presented annually to showcase products that have 'jolted' the IT industry with their significance and made the task of creating software faster, easier, and more efficient. Finalists for this year's Jolt Awards programme were selected by a panel of judges, comprised of well-respected editors, columnists and industry experts.
