Sage and the Joint University Librarians Advisory Committee (JULAC) have announced a new open access (OA) publishing agreement intended to expand accessibility of research produced in Hong Kong. The organizations stated that the agreement is designed to increase the visibility and impact of work authored by researchers based in Hong Kong so that the research can be read, shared, and built upon by scholars, practitioners, and policymakers worldwide.
Beginning January 1, 2026, and continuing through December 31, 2028, eligible authors at participating JULAC institutions will receive expanded options to publish research openly across Sage’s journal portfolio. For authors affiliated with institutions participating in the Read and Publish agreement:
● Authors may publish open access in more than 900 Sage subscription journals that provide hybrid open access through the Sage Choice program without paying an Article Processing Charge (APC).
● Authors may publish in Sage gold open access journals with a 15 percent discount applied to the APC.
For authors affiliated with institutions participating in the Gold Only arrangement:● Authors may publish in Sage gold open access journals with a 15 percent discount applied to the APC.
The partnership is expected to help researchers increase the global reach of their scholarship across the social and behavioral sciences, science, technology, and medicine (STM) fields, and other disciplines.
