SAGE completes migration of over 560 journals to next generation platform -

Academic publisher SAGE has announced the successful migration of its more than 560 journals to the next generation of SAGE Journals Online, supported by HighWire 2.0 (H2O) technology.

According to HighWire's Director, John Sack, SAGE Journals Online is now a cutting edge, standards-based platform poised to expand reader services and to interact seamlessly with mobile and other emerging channels. Both SAGE and HighWire are working together to ensure that this content is available to readers whenever and however they need it.

Among the enhancements visitors will find are advanced search across more than 50 disciplines, improved navigation and a targeted portal page. In addition, the Abstract preview feature allows users to mouse-over entries from tables of contents and search results providing instant pop-up previews of abstracts, without leaving the page. In the Feature hideaway option, author affiliations, related links, and other optional functions, can be expanded or hidden from view. Users can also generate 'Most Viewed' and 'Most Cited' articles lists for all journal-site pages. Further enhancements, coming soon, include adding publication history indicators and PatientInform links.

The next generation of SAGE Journals Online not only enhances the functionality of the platform, but is also designed for improved journal and society branding. The new three-column user interface is designed to highlight features available without taking attention away from the substantive article content. Features most closely associated with the manuscript pages are placed closest to it. As web research increasingly brings users right to the article page, this page needs to carry elements of the homepage and table of contents, providing intelligent choices to the reader as soon as they arrive.

To mark the successful migration, SAGE is offering a six week free trial to the next generation of SAGE Journals Online starting September 1, 2010.
