Academic publisher SAGE has announced that it has extended the list of titles included in its SAGE Open initiative. Ninety SAGE journals will now offer open access through SAGE Open.
SAGE Open initiative is a hybrid open access publishing model allowing authors the option to pay to make their primary research articles freely available on publication. The initiative was introduced to enable authors to comply with funding body requirements. It seeks to ensure that relevant journals are compliant with NIH/Wellcome Trust and other grant funder requirements.
Originally including only titles in SAGE’s biomedical publishing programme, the list of journals now includes titles from across the science, technology and medical disciplines including some material science and engineering, psychology and nursing titles.
Authors can select the SAGE Open option on acceptance of their paper for publication. Payment of the SAGE Open fee will enable articles to be immediately available on SAGE Journals Online to non-subscribers, as well as to subscribers to that journal. It will also permit authors to submit the final manuscript to their funding agency’s preferred archive if applicable. SAGE will post to PubMed Central (PMC) and its international equivalents, such as UKPMC or PMCI, on behalf of authors where their funder requires it.
