Sage Policy Profiles adds free feature connecting researchers with policy engagement opportunities -

Sage has added a new feature to Sage Policy Profiles, its free, browser-based policy impact tool. The update matches researchers with live policy engagement opportunities based on their research, biography, and countries of interest, enabling faster identification of ways to share expertise with policymakers.

Survey findings cited in connection with the update show that 92% of social and behavioral scientists say the ultimate goal of research is to benefit society. While many researchers seek real-world impact, identifying appropriate entry points for policy engagement remains challenging. The new feature streamlines this initial step by simplifying the search for relevant opportunities.

The functionality is powered by Overton Engage’s researcher matching technology. It draws from more than 4,000 policy opportunities across over 130 global sources. The system surfaces up to three personalized opportunities per user each month.

Optional email alerts notify users when new matches become available. The feature is fully integrated into the Sage Policy Profiles dashboard, which allows researchers to track, visualize, and share policy citations. This integration enables users to see where their work has already influenced policy as well as where they may contribute in the future.

The survey data cited is based on responses from 1,800 social and behavioral science researchers across 96 countries, as reported in the 2025 Sage white paper ‘Do social scientists care if they make societal impact?’ by Gamboa, Shaw, and Obeng.
