Academic publisher Sage has signed the UK Publishing Accessibility Action Group (PAAG) Accessible Publishing Charter, reinforcing its dedication to improving digital content accessibility. This commitment is part of a broader initiative to ensure that published works are accessible to all, from authors to readers.
The PAAG Accessible Publishing Charter aims to enhance accessibility across the publishing workflow, advocating for the incorporation of accessibility features, promoting standards, and assessing the accessibility of digital publications. By adopting the charter’s 10 principles, Sage is committed to implementing actionable steps to make its content more accessible.
PAAG promotes collaboration and best practices within the industry, with members representing various organizations across the publishing and advocacy sectors. As a PAAG member, Sage joins a network of publishers committed to advancing accessibility.
In addition to its membership with PAAG, Sage collaborates with organizations such as Bookshare, RNIB Bookshare, and the Accessible Book Consortium’s Global Book Service to disseminate accessible content. Sage is also a signatory of the Accessible Books Consortium’s Charter for Accessible Publishing, further highlighting its dedication to inclusive knowledge-sharing.
To further its commitment to accessibility, Sage has joined the Global Certified Accessible (GCA) program, which certifies its ebook workflow. This independent certification program assists publishers in creating content that meets the diverse needs of all readers.
