Samsung expects Galaxy Tab to cross 10 million units by 2011 third quarter -

Consumer technology provider Samsung, Korea, has reportedly announced that it expects to sell 10 million units of its new Galaxy Tab Android-based tablet by the third quarter of 2011. The Galaxy Tab is scheduled for launch in Europe in mid-September. The product will be available worldwide soon after.

Media reports indicate that the new Galaxy Tab Android-based tablet will have to be just as successful as the Apple iPad to reach 10 million sales. The Apple iPad achieved 3 million sales in its first three months.

According to Hankil Yoon, Samsung product executive, the 7 inch Android tablet, which was introduced at the recently concluded IFA show in Berlin, is expected to be priced at $200-$300. The tablet will be sold directly to the consumer through cellular carriers.

Android's share of the smartphone market is forecast to surpass that of Apple's iPhone iOS. Tech industry analyst iSuppli predicts that while Android will be used by 75 million smartphones by 2012, iOS usage will amount to 62 million for the year.
