STM publisher Elsevier, Netherlands, has announced that Scopus has indexed the first 7,500 book titles as part of its Book Titles Expansion program. By 2015, an estimated 75,000 book titles will be indexed. The inclusion of book titles adds to the more than 50 million records indexed by Scopus which are derived from 20,000 journals, 5.5 million conference proceedings and 390 trade publications.
Each scholarly publication type – journals, conference proceedings and books – may be cited and referenced and therefore contributes to the evaluation of the impact of research. In addition to increasing the breadth and depth of Scopus' reach in scholarly content, the inclusion of book titles ensures that Scopus more effectively meets both the discoverability and evaluation needs of book-based disciplines in the social sciences and arts and humanities.
All titles in the Scopus Book Titles Expansion Program are included – at no additional fee – under the standard Scopus license.
Scopus claims to be the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature, features smart tools to track, analyse and visualise scholarly research. Its vast database contains abstracts and references from 21,000 titles from more than 5,000 publishers worldwide, ensuring broad interdisciplinary coverage in the fields of science, technology, medicine, social sciences and Arts & Humanities. Scopus was designed and developed with input from researchers and librarians internationally; and features direct links to subscribed full-text articles, other library resources and interoperability with applications such as reference management software.
