Sideways report suggests ways to leverage business opportunities from tablet devices -

Sideways, a US-based software company that transforms books, magazines and other publications into content for mobile devices, has released a white paper, "Evolving Beyond Print: Taking Advantage of the New Tablet Communication Channel." The paper outlines the success and adoption of tablet devices, tablet user demographics and behaviour trends.

The report also includes best practices for publishers, advising that as tablet sales continue to surpass expectations, publishers and marketers must consider comprehensive app strategies to take advantage of burgeoning audience numbers.

According to the report, shipments of tablet devices will more than quadruple in 2011. It further notes that tablet users tend to be young, highly educated, high-income earners, drawing B2B and B2C content publishers to them. Users devote significant time to their tablets with the majority spending 2-5 hours per day on the device. This chunk of time is increasing as new apps make the device more useful, says the report.

Advantages of the tablet include the ability to directly leverage existing Internet initiatives. Apps offer more concentrated, reader-centric experiences than websites. While apps are substantial cost-savers, they can generate revenue as well. Organisations slow to adopt new technologies and publishing strategies run the risk of becoming obsolete, the report points out.
