JMIR Publications has renewed its Flat‑Fee unlimited open access publishing agreement with six UK universities through Jisc. The institutions extending their participation are Newcastle University, the University of Leeds, the University of Manchester, the University of Nottingham, the University of Southampton, and the University of Warwick.
The agreement replaces individual Article Processing Charges (APCs) with a publishing subscription model, removing administrative and financial barriers for researchers. Corresponding authors affiliated with these universities remain eligible to publish in any of JMIR’s portfolio of more than 30 Gold Open Access journals at no personal cost. The arrangement continues through July 31, 2027, supporting fully open access publishing across the field of digital health.
Dennis O’Brien, Vice President of Communications and Partnerships at JMIR Publications, explained that the renewal reflects institutional support for open access publishing subscriptions as a sustainable and scalable model. He noted that moving away from individual APC billing creates a more predictable and equitable publishing environment for researchers.
