SLACK Incorporated, an independent STM publishing company, has named Dr. Amy J. Barton as the Editor of the Journal of Nursing Education. Barton will be responsible for the overall quality, integrity, and content of the Journal to ensure it continues to publish peer-reviewed original articles and new ideas for nurse educators. The Journal aims to enhance the teaching-learning process, promote curriculum development, and stimulate creative innovation and research in nursing education.
Barton is Professor and Daniel and Janet Mordecai Endowed Chair in Rural Health Nursing, and Associate Dean for Clinical and Community Affairs at the University of Colorado College of Nursing, Denver, Colorado. She is responsible for implementing nurse-led models of care, and academic-practice partnerships. She is known nationally for her work in quality and safety and interprofessional care and education.
Barton previously served as Associate Editor of the Journal, succeeds Dr. Janis P. Bellack as Editor. Bellack will become an Editor Emeriti of the Journal alongside Dr. Christine A. Tanner and the late Rheba de Tornyay.
Upon Barton's promotion, Dr. Teri A. Murray has been promoted to Associate Editor of the Journal. Murray is Dean and Professor, Saint Louis University School of Nursing, St Louis, Missouri, and has been Assistant Editor of the Journal since 2017. Darrell R. Spurlock Associate Professor and Scholarship Director, Widener University, Chester, Pennsylvania, has been promoted to Assistant Editor. Spurlock remains the Editor of the Methodology Column in the Journal.
