The Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) has named Helen Szigeti as the organisation's Program Director. She will assume her new role effective February 25.
The Program Director is a part-time position which works collaboratively with SSP's programming-focused committees, the Executive Director, and the Board, in setting strategic direction for development of all educational programing of the Society, including the annual meeting, seminars, webinars, regional events, and training activities. Szigeti will be responsible for providing continuity, guidance, support, and standards for the SSP committees that are charged with developing educational and informational programs.
Currently an independent e-publishing consultant, Szigeti has more than 20 years of experience in the scholarly publishing community and brings a well-rounded and thoughtful perspective on technology advancements within the information industry. Her unique experiences have provided her with a detailed knowledge of the research communication process as it affects all stakeholders: publishers, librarians, researchers, practitioners, students, and funders. During her career Szigeti has worked at the University of Pennsylvania Libraries, Thomson Reuters, and HighWire Press, in roles which have included business development, consultative sales, new product development, publisher relations, project management, information literacy training, and library technical services. She has been an active volunteer, serving on committees for ALPSP and NISO and organizing conference sessions for SSP and The Charleston Conference.
