Dr. Justin R. Mascitelli, associate professor of neurosurgery and residency program director at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, also is now associate editor of the Journal of NeuroInterventional Surgery (JNIS), the official journal of the Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery (SNIS).
In this role, Mascitelli will be a key part of the editorial leadership team, which aims to advance the vision and mission of the journal as a highly respected forum for promoting clinical science and best practices in neurointerventional surgery, as well as meet the emerging needs of the SNIS’s more than 1,000 members.
Among his responsibilities as associate editor, Mascitelli will promote and serve as an ambassador for the journal within the SNIS and for external audiences. He will support the editor-in-chief’s efforts to grow the impact of the publication in the field, in addition to soliciting manuscripts from potential authors in alignment with the strategic direction of both JNIS and SNIS.
Mascitelli currently practices as an open cerebrovascular and endovascular neurosurgeon.
With more than a decade of impact, JNIS is considered a leading peer-reviewed journal for scientific research and literature pertaining to the field of neurointerventional surgery. The journal was launched in 2009 following growing professional interest in neurointerventional techniques for the treatment of a range of neurological and vascular problems including stroke, aneurysms, brain tumors and spinal disorders.
JNIS is published by BMJ, a leading publisher of medical journals, on behalf of SNIS, and it also is the official journal of the European Society of Minimally Invasive Neurological Therapy (ESMINT), the Interventional Chapter of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Neuroradiology (ANZSNR), Canadian Interventional Neuro Group (CING), Hong Kong Society of Interventional and Therapeutic NeuroRadiology (HKSITN), and the INR Chapter of NRST.
SNIS is composed of physicians around the globe with backgrounds in interventional neuroradiology, endovascular neurosurgery, and interventional neurology who have special expertise in treating such conditions as stroke, aneurysms, carotid stenosis, and spinal abnormalities through minimally invasive procedures.
Having pioneered these techniques over the past three decades, neurointerventionalists continue to transform the treatment landscape and improve outcomes for conditions that have the significant potential for loss of life or severely impaired quality of life.
