Southern Medical Journal now available for the iPad -

Healthcare information provider Wolters Kluwer Health (WK Health), US, has announced that the Southern Medical Journal (SMJ) is now available for the iPad. The journal is the official journal of the Southern Medical Association.

Having switched to an online-only format in 2010, SMJ continues to be progressive in its use of digital technology with the launch of an iPad app.

The new SMJ for the iPad app is available for download on the iTunes App Store. The February issue is the first issue available for the iPad, with free access being made available to all users for a limited time. After this introductory period, SMA members and non-member individual subscribers will continue to have full access via a simple login process. Each monthly issue will be posted on the same schedule as the current online-only journal.

Published continuously since 1908, SMJ provides a multidisciplinary focus on a broad range of topics of interest to physicians and other healthcare specialists. Topics covered range from general medicine and surgery to the medical and surgical subspecialties, along with child and maternal health, mental health, emergency and disaster medicine, public health and environmental medicine, and bioethics and medical education.

Southern Medical Journal for the iPad uses optimised digital technology to provide a print-like reading experience. Along with the full contents of each monthly issue, the SMJ app delivers an enhanced reading experience with such features as adjustable text and image sizing via the 'pinch and zoom' function, the ability to share articles via email and social media, and more.

Southern Medical Journal continues to be available via the SMJ website, and the app includes a link to the site, where users can view supplemental data and browse the complete journal archives. The app was developed by the SMA's publishing partner, Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.
