SPARC Europe is among a consortium of organisations just awarded a COAlition S / Science Europe project to conduct a study to explore Diamond (non-APC) Open Access publishing models worldwide. Some of the issues the study will address include: What works and serves whom? How technically fit are Diamond journals and their platforms and how far do journals comply with Plan S? Does more collaboration make sense, and if so where? And how sustainable is Diamond?
Collaborating with the community will be key to this project’s success. Eleven proposals were submitted to COAlition S. SPARC Europe’s project bid was backed by a consortium co-ordinated by OPERAS and includes SPARC Europe, Utrecht University, DOAJ, the Arctic University of Norway as partners; and LIBER, OASPA, ENRESSH, Redalyc-AmeliCA and CSI as associate partners.
The study will be delivered by the end of 2020, and regular public updates on progress are planned along the way. The study is financially supported by Science Europe.
