Springer and Biomedical Engineering Society expand publishing partnership -

STM publisher Springer, Germany, and the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) have announced the launch of a new international journal - Cellular and Molecular Bioengineering (CMBE). Springer already publishes the BMES journal Annals of Biomedical Engineering. X. Edward Guo of Columbia University, NY, and David J. Odde of the University of Minnesota will serve as co-editors of the journal.

Slated for launch later this month, Cellular and Molecular Bioengineering will publish first-rate articles in the frontier areas of cellular and molecular bioengineering, thus advancing this rapidly evolving new field that addresses problems at the interface of cellular-molecular biology and engineering. The journal seeks to foster the understanding of mechanical, chemical, and electrical processes to better understand the integrated systems nature of cellular and molecular processes. The scope of the journal includes behaviours of biomolecules, behaviours of cells, computational modeling of molecules and cells, and experimental methods for cellular and molecular bioengineering.

Springer will publish the journal quarterly in both print and electronic formats. It will be available on Springer's online information platform, Springerlink, and will include fast, electronic publication in Online First, as well as Cross Reference Linking and Table of Contents Alerts. In addition, all potential authors have the option, through the Springer Open Choice programme, of publishing their articles using the open access publishing model.
